It has come to light that bathroom heater/dryers manufactured by Rinnai more than 10 years ago may, on rare occasions, catch fire due to gradual deterioration of certain components. Specifically, lead wires exiting inside the fan motor that circulates air within the bathroom may corrode over time, resulting in a short circuit that could cause a fire and damage the equipment. To address this situation, an inspection and repair program will be implemented at no charge to users of affected products.
Rinnai asks users of affected products to immediately refrain from using all but the ventilation function. To find out if the model installed at your location is subject to inspection and repair, please refer to accompanying information below, which includes a list of affected models and how to find identifying product numbers, as well as dedicated points of contact.
As soon as users of affected models have been identified, Rinnai will send out technicians for inspection and repair. You will be able to request participation in this program online from April 15 or by phone from April 17. Inspection and repair work will begin as soon as the control board is available for installation.
Note that Rinnai and qualified Rinnai product repair service providers will not perform any work related to an affected bathroom heater/dryer without a formal request from you.
Moreover, technicians will carry Rinnai identification and attend your location on the date and at the time scheduled with you in advance to perform inspection and repair work. Do not fall prey to inspection scams by someone fraudulently claiming to represent Rinnai either through an unexpected visit or a phone call.
Rinnai takes this situation very seriously and sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the short circuit issue and inspection and repair process. We will endeavor to ensure that similar situations do not arise in the future. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

How to know if your bathroom heater/dryer is subject to inspection and repair
- It is difficult to check for a model number on the main unit because bathroom heater/dryers are installed in the bathroom ceiling.
Please look on the bathroom heater/dryer remote control unit installed in the wall of the changing area to confirm the brand and remote control number or main unit number (model). 
Labeling and location of labeling on the remote control unit differ by brand, as described below.

Details on no-charge inspection and repair program
Technicians will attach a control board to the existing control board in the main unit of the bathroom heater/dryer that will shut the unit down before a fire occurs due to deterioration of certain components over time. The work will take place in the bathroom and should be completed in about one hour.
