Implementation of voluntary inspection and parts replacement of balanced-flue system bath boilers
Rinnai has found that some of balanced-flue system bath boilers*that were manufactured by Gastar Co., Ltd. and sold by Rinnai have a risk of a very small amount of gas leakage in the product during the use. Rinnai will voluntarily inspect and replace parts of the same type of products.

* A balanced-flue system bath boiler is a bath boiler placed in a bath room. It employs an air supply and exhaust system,
For some of balanced-flue system bath boilers manufactured from January 2011 to May 2011, a sealing component to prevent gas leakage was attached at a wrong location during the assembly process of gas conducting parts. The products with this type of gas conducting parts have a risk of a very small amount of gas leakage in the product during the use.
Among the products subject to inspection, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) models have a risk that the gas conducting parts may be partially burnt. This is because LPG has a greater specific gravity than air, and leaked gas is ignited with the fire of a burner located at a lower position. However, we have confirmed that an ignition switch will be turned off due to the burning, and the gas supply to the product will be safely shut down. Therefore, the area which may be burnt will be limited to only the gas conducting parts, and the fire does not spread to the outside of the product. As for town gas models, leaked gas will be discharged to outside through an air supply and exhaust opening. Therefore, they do not catch fire.
For both town gas models and LPG models, a very small amount of gas leakage occurs only during the use of the product. When the product is not operated, gas leakage does not happen.
So far, only one case was reported as a gas leak accident caused by the gas conducting parts for the products produced by Gastar Co., Ltd and sold under Rinnai brand. As for the same type of products produced by Gastar and sold by other brands, there is a case that the burning of part of the gas conducting parts was confirmed at a repair process to fix the condition that the product does not ignite. Gastar reported to Rinnai that with the both cases, fire was limited to the gas conducting parts area without spreading to the outside of the product, and did not cause any damage to people.
Rinnai will notify customers by sending a mail, and start inspection and parts replacement for free.

How to check if a product needs an inspection or not
A model is written on the name plate attached on the front of the product body.
When both model and manufacturing number are found inthe list below, the product is subject to an inspection.
* The products are manufactured by Gastar and sold by Rinnai Corporation.
2. Request to the users
Until the inspection and parts replacement are completed, Rinnai asks the users of the target products to contact our toll-free number (Japanese only) when any abnormal condition, such as the difficulty in ignition and gas odor, is found.
3. Inspection items
Inspection covers the confirmation of target model and the replacement of gas conducting parts. It takes about 60 minutes.
4. Notice to customers
Rinnai will inform the users of the products about free inspection and parts replacement by mail.The information is also listed on this website.
