Gas instantaneous hot-water heater

Trouble caused by the deterioration of equipment

Indicators related to ignition operation

Indicators related to ignition operation

An operating switch becomes stiffer than before.
It takes several tries to ignite the pilot burner of a heater.
The ignition noise is louder than before.
The sparking sound present during ignition becomes more intermittent.
"Error" message appears frequently.

Actual case Dust was accumulated on a spark electrode and a burner, which negatively affected burning condition and resulted in abnormal combustions.

Caution

If ignition fails, wait for a while and then try again. If you try again without waiting, there is a possibility that unburned gas will accumulate and cause abnormal ignition. If you notice signs of poor ignition, stop using the product and have it inspected by the manufacturer after confirming that the batteries are not flat. (Potential causes include dust and/or cobwebs clogging up the air intake and exhaust ports, battery drainage, and aging parts.)

Inspection and repair

Actual case Deteriorated parts negatively affected burning condition and resulted in abnormal combustion.

Things that are observed during the use of supplied hot water

Things that are observed during the use of supplied hot water

The temperature of water is generally lower than before.
A heater often shuts down.
There is an odor which was not present before.
The color of flame changed to yellow.
A sound similar to something boiling can be detected.

Actual case The color of the flame is changed to yellow.

Visual indicators

Visual indicators

Part of equipment has a hole or is discolored.
Water leaks from equipment.
There is accumulated dust in the air supply and exhaust openings.

Actual case Due to the water leak from an internal component, gas components were corroded, which caused a gas leak.
Actual case Part of the air supply and exhaust pipes got clogged with dust, causing incomplete combustion.

Actual case ventilation, and felt sick due to incomplete combustion.

Caution

ventilation, and felt sick due to incomplete combustion.

When using a gas instantaneous hot-water heater, please make sure to ventilate either by using a fan or opening a window.
If a gas instantaneous hot-water heateris repeatedly used in an environment lacking sufficient ventilation, the user may suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning due to incomplete combustion. In the worst case, this could result in a fatality.

Actual case Although the battery replacement sign was indicated, a user kept using the equipment, which caused abnormal ignition.
Although the battery replacement sign was indicated, a user kept using the equipment, which caused abnormal ignition.
Actual case A small hot-water heater was continuously used to supply hot water to a bath and shower for an excessively long time, causing incomplete combustion.

Caution

A small hot-water heater was continuously used to supply hot water to a bath and shower for an excessively long time, causing incomplete combustion.

Please do not continuously use equipment to supply hot water to a bath and a shower for an excessively long time.
It could be dangerous, and could cause incomplete combustion.

Actual case The equipment was installed by the owner, who did not request installation from the sales office or installation vendor. This resulted in a gas leak and fire.

Attention

Equipment replacement and installation must be done by qualified people. Please ask the dealer or installer to arrange installation. Do not attempt installation by yourself.

Caution

The use of rubber for gas piping has been prohibited since 1997. When replacing equipment, also replace the rubber tube (hose end) used in the previous water heater.

Actual case After using a spray can near the equipment, the gas instantaneous water heater ignited, causing explosion and damage to the surrounding area.

Caution

Do not use spray cans or gas depressurizers near the equipment. Doing so may cause the flammable gas propellant to ignite and catch fire.
